We flew Fiji Airways, very comfortable with brilliant service from happy staff as well as sufficient food choice. The entertainment system is also very good.
We stayed at the Matamanoa Island Resort in a Beachfront Bure on Sunset Beach.
This is by far one the best beachfront bungalows I have ever stayed in. Apart from being wonderfully furnished, it is so large and has all amenities that you would expect in a 5 star resort. Walking out onto the deck with its own pool, double day bed and outdoor shower certainly had the ‘wow’ effect and the view over the beach and lagoon (especially at sunset) was spectacular. The lagoon and beach in front of the bures is great for swimming all day, even at low tide.
Buffet breakfast was substantial but they also had a really good choice of a-la-carte hot breakfast options. The lunch and dinner menu changed daily and had really good choices as well. Every meal was top class. You can eat at the restaurant with lovely views over the island and beyond or have lunch or dinner delivered to your room. Nightly entertainment by staff was also fun, and they really try to make everyone feel special.
There are plenty of water activity options, including a dive centre and there are also trips to other islands, (I.e. Visit the island where the Tom Hanks movie Castaway was filmed). They offer snorkel safaris, village visits, as well as daily activities on the board at reception, such as beach volleyball, beach soccer. There are also nightly games after dinner for those interested.
I will definitely return to Fiji and Matamanoa Island Resort.
