SINGAPORE & THAILAND
SINGAPORE & THAILAND
On our recent holiday to Thailand, I thought it may be good to visit Singapore’s Sentosa Island and the much talked about ‘Marina Bay Sands Resort’ that was recently aired on the Getaway, given it was so close to Thailand, so we decided to take up one of Singapore Airlines great airfare deals to Phuket via Singapore.. we also managed to get seats on Singapore Airlines new A380 fleet there and back, and reduced our flying time by almost 1 hour, so that in itself was off to a good start.
From the moment we arrived to Marina Bay Sands, we knew there was something special about this place. We had booked the Club level Rooms and were upgraded to the Royal Orchard Suite. Champagne was served on arrival before heading up to our room. We quickly changed our gear and headed up to the ‘Skypark for a swim in the ‘worlds largest infinity pool’. You enter the lifts and before you know it, your on top of the world. From the moment you step out the lifts, a rush runs thru your body when u realize the size of this place. It was a spectacular view and with privileged access to The Club at Marina Bay Sands, our first-class lounge was situated 57 stories above the ground where you would enjoy breakfast daily, a delicous afternoon tea with a large selection of nibblies and complimentary cocktails and canapes in the evening, laptops and ipads with wireless internet facilities were also available for use. The resort also offers over 20 restaurants, 6 bars & nightclubs, a casino, shopping mall, kids club, fitness centre, spa’s and much more…
The next day we visited Sentosa Island, just 10 minutes by taxi connected by a causeway. The newest attraction ‘Resorts World Sentosa’. Here you will find a world of non stop entertainment, more shopping, restaurants, the new Resorts World Casino and 6 unique hotels, adventure park including attractions such as the ‘segway fun ride, cable car, wavehouse flowrider, megazip adventure and recently Universal Studios opening only 6 months ago, so of course we couldn’t miss out on all this…. finishing the night off with the amazing ‘Light & Sound Show’. Wow… What an amazing weekend, now we were really ready to enjoy the rest of our holiday heading next to Phuket’s beautiful beaches for relaxation.
Our Thailand holiday included stays in 3 different resorts, and loved all 3. We started our trip at the Holiday Inn resort in Patong, with direct access to the shopping, entertainment, restaurants and beaches it was a great place to stay if you want to be in the heart of the action.
We then visited the Westin Siray Bay Resort & Spa for 2 nights, a peaceful and relaxing retreat on the otherside of Phuket. Its positioned on a hilltop, every room overlooking the ocean with direct beach access. It was about 30 minutes from Patong by taxi and only 10 minutes from Phuket town, close to the Central Shopping Centre and Phuket town night markets. To be honest, there was so much to do at the resort, we really didn’t have time to leave during our stay there. The SPG kids program was great value for money, approx $8 AUD per child, per day included unlimited Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner including drinks during our stay. My daughters 9 & 10 were having 2nds & 3rds – burgers and chips during lunch by the pool and pasta’s for dinner. We went cannoeing in the calm beach, and lazed by the 3 different pools all with swim up pool bars and driven by buggies to the lobby restaurants, beachside or your room.
And finally, 5 nights at the ‘Le Meridien Beach Resort & Spa’… my favourite, directly on your own private beach and only 5 minutes away from Patong. I continue to come back here each year because of its great location, largest kids club and fantastic activities including putt putt golf, archery, rock climbing, snorkeling, chess field, tennis courts, squash courts and the list goes on… Its really the only resort in Phuket directly on the beach and only 5 minutes away from where all the action in Patong is. The only other resort not too far from Patong is the new Centara Grand Beach Resort located directly on Karon Beach approx 10 – 15 minutes from Patong, with 2 water slides and river raftting. Another great haven for the kids… definitely my next stop.
