I have worked for AAT Kings and was fortunate enough to take a group to the Hunter Valley for wine tasting. I recommend this tour to anyone who wants to do some wine tasting and enjoy a full day away from Sydney.

Itinerary En Route:
You’ll head out over the iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge and through the leafy North Shore suburbs, heading to the beautiful Hunter Valley. Today you’re going to taste some of the finest wines this country has to offer, amid the stunning landscape of the Hunter Valley. Your Driver Guide will give you details of the day’s itinerary as you sit back and enjoy the view.

Hunter Valley:
One of Australia’s most celebrated wine-producing regions, the Hunter Valley in country New South Wales attracts more than 2V million visitors each year. Much of the lush countryside is under vine, providing stunning views. There are extensive plantings of traditional varieties across the valley, including Shiraz, Semillon, Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Drayton’s Wines:
First stop is Drayton’s Wines, one of the Hunter Valley’s pioneering wine-making companies that is still family-owned and operated. You’ll taste their award-winning wines and experience over 150 years of wine-making excellence.

Lindeman’s Winery:
Next you’re off to your second tasting at Lindeman’s Winery. The first humble crop of vines planted here in 1843 comprised of Riesling, Verdelho and Shiraz. With great foresight and entrepreneurial flair, Henry Lindeman continued to diversify and build his wine-making empire. Today, Lindeman’s is one of the largest exporters of wine from Australia. You’ll be hosted by the cellar-master in a private tasting of a range of Lindeman’s fine wines developed in the region.

 Hunter Resort Lunch:
This secluded country inn is nestled within its own 40 year old Shiraz vineyards in the heart of the Hunter Valley. You’ll visit their cellar-door and learn of the local wine-making techniques. You’ll also be treated to a tasting platter lunch of seasonal local produce along with a range of wine tastings to complement the food. Included Meals: Lunch

Bluetongue Brewery:
Hunter Resort is also home to the only boutique brewery in the region. Visit the Bluetongue Brewery, where a huge glass wall provides a birds-eye view into the brewery from the bar. Try their Beer Tasting Paddle with accompanying notes of each of the brews (own expense).

McGuigan Wines:
With a history in wine-making dating back to the late 1800s, the McGuigan family are respected pioneers of the industry both in Australia and overseas. At the McGuigan cellar-door you’ll be greeted warmly and welcomed to a tasting of their fine wines.

Hunter Valley Gardens Village:
This village is a beautiful spot, brimming with boutique stores and majestic gardens (Hunter Valley Gardens entry at own expense). Before returning to Sydney, treat yourself to afternoon tea and some of the Hunter’s best homemade produce (own expense). Make sure you take a peek in the Hunter Valley Chocolate Shop – you simply won’t be able to resist the temptation.
